Yes, You can upload standard size creative and Retina double size creative to same campaign.
Retina banners can create using Retina Double sized banner type.
You should upload all possible standard sizes of  Retina double size creative.

How the zone sizes will match creative for Retina (given creative file dimensions will be bigger than zone sizes).

Retina creative can link with zone.
Creative size can resize shrinking to zone size up to 50% of dimension.
For example: 400×400 creative to 200×200. But 200×200 banner can't expand to 400×400.

Revive will detect sizes that are too big for the zones, how will you overcome that? When you say Retina will link to any size you mean it will override dimensions and allow targeting at smaller zones.
 
If I assume a normal banner is loaded as standard and targeted at the same zone at the same time inside the same campaign?

• Retina Image store into revive and link to any sizes of zone. For example: if zone size is 300×250 and Retina banner size is 600×500. For retina detected device we will resize 600×500 banner to 300×250 zone.if zone size with 150×125 600×500 banner won't be delivered and available standard size banner get deliver. Within 50% of size reduce deliver the banners.
  
• For retina enabled device retina ads preferable to deliver and if there is no matching retina banners in size matching(till 50%) return standard size banner. Retina not enabled device only deliver standard size banner ads. Standard campaign banner and retina banner linked to same zone from same campaign at a time. Based on retina device detection ad get deliver as mentioned above.
